This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies Noema Cognition ("Noema," "we," "us") uses, why we use them, and how you can manage them. We believe in transparency — Noema uses only what is necessary to make the service work.

1. What Are Cookies & Local Storage?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to store information. They are sent back to the server with each request, enabling features like keeping you logged in.

Local storage (localStorage) is a browser mechanism that stores data on your device. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not automatically sent to the server — it stays in your browser and is used only by the page's JavaScript to remember UI preferences and state.

2. What Noema Uses

Session Cookie

Every item listed above is strictly essential for the service to function or for remembering your UI preferences. None of it is used for tracking, advertising, or profiling.

3. What Noema Does Not Use

Not Present on Noema
  • No third-party tracking cookies (Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.)
  • No advertising or retargeting cookies
  • No cross-site tracking of any kind
  • No analytics cookies — our self-hosted analytics uses no cookies at all
  • No social media tracking pixels
  • No fingerprinting or device identification beyond the session token

Because Noema uses only essential cookies and localStorage for core functionality, there is no cookie category to "opt out" of. Everything we store is required for the service to work.

4. How to Manage Cookies & Local Storage

You are always in control of the data stored in your browser. Here is how to manage it:

Clear Cookies

You can delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that clearing the Noema session cookie will sign you out — you will need to sign in again.

Clear Local Storage

To clear localStorage for Noema specifically:

  1. Open your browser's developer tools (usually F12 or right-click → Inspect)
  2. Go to the Application tab (Chrome/Edge) or Storage tab (Firefox)
  3. Find Local Storage in the sidebar and select the Noema domain
  4. Delete individual keys or clear all entries

Clearing localStorage will reset your UI preferences (progressive disclosure state, voice hint) and sign you out. Your journal entries and data remain safe on our servers.

If we begin using new types of cookies or significantly change how we use browser storage, we will update this page and note the change date above. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies (which we have no plans to do), we will update the consent banner to offer a meaningful choice.
